(PRWEB UK) 25 November 2012

Patrick OHara, the new smoking liaison officer has been given permission to enforce disciplinary action against staff that refuse to put out cigarettes, especially those who are using in-patient smoking areas. It has been reported that he has faced harsh criticism and abuse from fellow employees, some of which could lead to dismissals and suspension.

Chief Executive Gerry Marr informed all 14,000 staff by email stating that, A growing number (of workers are smoking) despite recent management initiatives, he advised that they should cease the practice of smoking on NHS Tayside sites with immediate effect. Aware of the unpleasant reception of this from staff he warned, Please note that the use of abusive language will not be tolerated, will be deemed as unacceptable behaviour, could be viewed as gross misconduct and will be addressed in accordance with the Dignity at Work Policy.

A spokesperson from Nicolites, the UKs leader in electronic cigarettes, reacted to the move, We can understand why the NHS has taken a hard step in stamping out on smoking within hospital grounds. As the UKs biggest preventable killer smoking costs the NHS millions of pounds a year alongside upset and tragedy for millions of people. However we also understand it is a very hard habit to kick and thats why we offer a smoke and tar free alternative.

Nicolites will be following the NHS non smoking developments closely within the coming months.

Nicolites is now the leading and most widely available brand of electric cigarette in the UK; they have formed business partnerships with many of the largest retailers to bring these wonderful innovations right on to the doorstep of every person in the country. Established in late 2007, Nicolites has grown into a multi-million pound company with international distribution networks and continues to grow at a phenomenal rate.

The Truth About Electronic Cigarettes

Electronic cigarettes do not emit a thick smoke or a heavy odor.

They can be used in places a regular cigarette cannot; such as restaurants, malls, and stores. There are benefits and drawbacks to this form of nicotine use.

Electronic cigarettes can be used as a quitting tool. The cartridges do contain nicotine, so these cigarettes are not completely safe, however, different cartridges do contain different levels of nicotine. It is possible to step down from the strongest cartridge to a cartridge with no nicotine. Using this step down method, smokers can reduce their use of nicotine at a rate comfortable to them.

Users of e-cig kits can also benefit those around them. Second hand smoke is just as dangerous as inhaling directly from a cigarette. Electronic cigarettes do not produce smoke. They produce a steam-like vapor. This vapor is only produced when the smoker inhales on the unit. There is no risk of negative health effects from second hand smoke. Family and friends of the smoker, as well as the general public, can breathe easily with no risk of lung damage.

Electronic cigarettes are easily purchased. e-cig kits can be bought online, at smoke shops, and even in gas stations. These kits come with at least one electronic cigarette battery 9which looks like a regular cigarette), a battery charger, a vaporizer, and a few cartridges to start. e-cig kits come in different strengths and tastes, to suit the preference of the smoker. Some even come in alternative flavors, like clove and strawberry. Some companies offer separate accessories for their kits, such as car and USB chargers.

e-cig kits vary in price and can be expensive. e-cig kits can start as low as $ 25 and can go up in price to over $ 150. While this is a onetime cost, it can be difficult to swallow for those on the budget. Electronic cigarette users must also realize that they will have to make periodic purchases. Electronic cigarette cartridges only last so long, and replacement packs of these cartridges will have to be purchased. These packs often cost as much as a carton of cigarettes. However, with appropriate use, the filters can last as long as a carton. Occasionally, batteries and vaporizers may also need to be replaced.

Electronic cigarettes will not prevent a smoker from getting cancer and they may not be the best solution for those on a tight budget. For many, these cigarettes do have advantages. Smokers can spend more time enjoying activities and outings and less time running outside to have a cigarette. Electronic cigarettes can be used as a quitting aid. Smokers’ families and friends have more to look forward to then just a puff of smoke.

Electronic Cigarette ? The Big Issue of Tobacco: Are E Cigs Safer?

Welcome back to this series of articles about the electronic cigarette. We have already covered lots of issues surrounding the e cig, such as legality, cost, popularity and some of the other aspects that have made the device such a controversial talking point. This is actually part 10 of a series in which we have roughly gone through e cigarette themes in alphabetical order.  If you want to catch up, please feel free to check out the other chapters.

In this chapter we will take a look at perhaps one of the biggest issues of all, the tobacco issue. Whichever way you look at it, the facts are that an electronic cigarette product contains no tobacco at all and during the few years since the e-cigarette has burst onto the market; the absence of tobacco has probably been its biggest selling point. It is well known that most of a traditional cigarettes danger is from the tobacco itself, with many poisons and known carcinogens present in the tobacco.

In the early years of its relatively brief history, (the device has been around for five or six years but only started to gain serious momentum in 2008) there were very few restrictions and distributors had a field day, marketing their new product as a “quit smoking” method due to it being free from tobacco.

However, it didn’t take too long before health authorities (who perhaps initially thought it was just a gimmick that would soon fade away) had to take the e cig seriously and many objections about its safety and marketing techniques were raised.

These battles are still being waged deep into 2010, with electronic cigarette companies still in operation and still perfectly legal in many places, albeit with drastically altered marketing strategies.

Advertising ploys such as “safer smoking” and “healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes” are no longer permitted.

Currently most e cigarettes are being marketed as an alternative or even an extension to the traditional smoking market. Health authorities are pressuring governments to ensure the product has to go through the same stringent checks and procedures as any other.

However, despite its rocky road travelled, the electronic cigarette industry continues to grow and expand and along with it, perhaps logically, its user base. The million (or perhaps billion) dollar question remains mysteriously unanswered for now though. Are electronic cigarettes safer than tobacco cigarettes? Fortunately it’s not my job to unravel that one!
