Talk about whatever tickles your fancy.
Now being posted at 11pm eastern!
I'm always curious to see what was a person's first deck they learned to build on. For me I learned to build on the iJoy RDTA Box with the velocity style deck. Easy to learn to build on and forgivable I feel. My favorite now is still a tie between velocity and the postless deck on the pulse 24 bf rda. What about you?

In a previous post I reported that the fire button switch had failed on my 6 month old Drag. Well, after searching high and low and uttering several choice words, I've located and replaced the failed switch. Fingers crossed my Drag "seems" to be good as new. Good soldering skills and nerves of steel required! You'll also need a good soldering iron with a tiny (0.07" or smaller) tip. For those of you interested and not faint of heart, the switch is made by C&K, part number CKN10504CT-ND. I found them at Digi-Key Electronics at a cost of $2.90/10 pieces. Do yourself a favor and order 10 because you'll likely ruin at least 2 on the install.
Today we're taking a look at the Joyetech Atopack Dolphin, a new kit designed for new users that's a successor to the popular Penguin kit.
Joyetech sent this to me for review and I'm finally getting a chance to post my thoughts on it. In short, it's good. Very good. I've spent a little under week with it, using it as my primary device. Honestly, I used it until I ran out of 12mg <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice – just under 20ml of it. Usually, 20ml of 12mg <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice will last me a week and a half of MTL vaping because I tend to MTL only in specific situations, but I couldn't put this thing down.
Again, I will apologize in advance for my pictures. I'm not a photographer. The rendered graphics are taken from Joyetech's website.
It's somewhat small. 31mm wide, 100mm tall, and 50mm wide.
It's a very simple device designed for new users primarily.
5-click locking and unlocking. No other features.
Made entirely of plastic, this thing is super lightweight. It weights 91g.
Will do both MTL or lung hits depending on the coil you're using. More on this below.
No airflow adjustment
The tank holds 6.2ml. Also comes in a 2ml version for our European friend and a child-safe version.
The wattage is regulated to a maximum of 50w. But seeing as how you can only use their proprietary coil heads, I don't see how this is even worth mentioning.
Has a 2,100 mAh internal battery.
Charges at 2A. From dead to full took me about an hour and twenty minutes, so I suspect that's fairly accurate.
This one was sent to me from Joyetech. I've heard they have an online shop, but I can't seem to locate it easily. I think this is the full production model, but I can't be sure.
Basically, they cost 30 bucks for the kit.
Coils are around $12-$15 for a 5 pack.
Packaging and Contents
I've always loved Joyetech packaging. Makes me feel like i'm getting my money's worth from the get-go.
Not to shabby. It's tightly packed in foam to reduce the chance of you receiving a broken device, which is the most bummer thing ever.
The mod arrives with a silicon sleeve on the mouth piece of the pod. It doesn't add anything to the vape, really, and as other reviews have pointed out, it acts as a collection point for moisture. Here it is without the silicon sleeve.
The assortment of included items. Missing from this package are the coils. Which I used, but are individually wrapped for freshness.
This thing is pretty cool looking. What you see on the device is the large firing switch, the USB port, and the battery indicator. The indicator has five lights to show you the approximate level of voltage left in the cell. As you can see in this photo, I had two lights remaining when these pictures were taken, indicating that I have between 10 and 29% battery life remaining.
This is why, by the way, it's called Dolphin. I can sort of see it. Looks a little more like a puffer fish to me. The section that represents the "eye" are the airflow for the tank/pod, just above the firing switch.
The tank/pod in this thing is massive. The version I have holds 6.2ml of <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice. I have one tank in my collection that holds more than that, and it's a 30mm tank. It's just absurdly large, and I love it.
Each pod has a small sticker that one can fill in. I suspect that's so you can have multiple pods for multiple flavors? I'm the type of guy that vapes the same falvor from morning to night. Pretty cool idea, anyway. Not like i'll have to see it when it's in use, anyway.
When shipped, there will be a plug in the bottom of the pod. You have to remove that to pit the coil in. Once it's removed, it's pretty easy to see how the coil sockets into place. The coil actually nestles in a silicon pad. No threads whatsoever on this kit; it's all just plug and play.
Joyetech is calling these coils "JVIC" coils, which is short for <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice Vertical Injection Coil. Basically, it's just a vertical coil, but the <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice feed comes from directly above. They produced this graphic to explain.
Before the launch of the Dolphin, Joyetech didn't really have an MTL coil for this series of devices. With the introduction of this product, they also developed a MTL, 1.2Ω coil. To restrict airflow, they added a small silicon housing to the higher resistance coils. You can sort of see it here. On the right is a MTL coil, and the coil on the left, which is .25Ω, doesn't have the silicon governor.
70/30 VG/PG has been working just fine for the MTL coils, although I wouldn't want to try anything more viscous. My diy blend of 83.5%VG has worked just fine in the .25Ω coil.
Joyetech's graphic explains the airflow system used. I'll admit that I was slightly dubious about getting a cold vape with all that travel, but it's been nice and warm.
Finally, the <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice port is on the side of the pod, which is hidden when fully assembled. The port is actually a little small, so you may have some difficulty filling with a glass dropped. I found that unicorn style bottles fit in there just fine. The tab system makes for very little mess.
I fully didn't expect to like this thing as much as I do. The only close comparison to this thing that I own is the Mi-One, which has been thoroughly underwhelming for me. Especially with its claims of MTL and DL in the same pod?
But I was wrong. Very wrong.
This thing is good.
While I particularly like the MTL coils, the direct lung coils are also very good. I'm getting great flavor, with enough airflow to be satisfying. In fact, it has more airflow than say the Hadaly RDA, or the Melo III, or the Goblin Mini v3.
Mouth-to-lung is where it really shine, though. Each full charge takes me through about 6ml of <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice. It's a dense, satisfying vape, with tons of flavor. Better flavor than my beloved Nautilus Mini, honestly, and way less of a pain in the ass to refill.
Let's talk about the size for a minute. In the world of pod systems, this thing is considered large. But being large is a massive pro in this case.
Allow me to explain. Take a look at something like the Juul, undoubtedly the most popular pod system on the market. Were you to give that to an older smoker, what do you suspect their first impression of the device would be? Would they think that it was a marvel of engineering and to be cherished and looked after, or would it look like a thumb drive you can smoke? I'm not saying this is a universal reaction or even a common one, but for those who like substance to their belongings, the Dolphin could be perfect.
Moreover, a Dolphin is simply much more difficult to lose.
Smaller than a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, for sure.
In short, this is a really good refillable pod system for those who have been unimpressed with the others on the market.
There's a few things I would have liked to see in the package, though.
The pod is a little difficult to take of. Some sort of notch to get my fingernail beneath would have been nice. For now, I push on the mouth piece away from the fire switch to disengage the pod then pull it out.
A little more clear documentation on how to assemble it. I figured it out, but it took me about 10 minutes to get there.
So, who is this for?
Well, moms and me. Look how cute this thing is.
Really, though, any smoker who wants to try vaping. It would make a perfect introductory to vaping for anyone. I wish these had been around when I wanted to try vaping instead of the terrible, flavorless ego nonsense.
Look, every year we get a wave of people stopping by the sub to ask what vape to get a smoker for Christmas. I can think of no better option than this.
Buy the kit. Get a pack of the MTL coils and a bottle of 12-18mg <a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/<a href="http://www.vapininthecape.com/eliquid_c_7.html”>eliquid_c_7.html”>juice. Check back with them on January 2nd.
Feel free to ask any questions, now or in the distant future. I'll do my best to answer.
Welcome to the Voopoo Too Review & Giveaway!
How time Flies! It seems like Halloween was just yesterday!
I'm extremely excited to announce that I have teamed up with VooPoo once again for another giveaway!
To get into the Holiday Spirit We are giving away not 1 but 2 VooPoo Too mods! HOLY COW!
Capable of using 1 single or dual 18650 batteries
battery: 1 or 2 x 18650 (Supports balance charging)
Newest Gene Chip firmware – lightning fast 10ms fire speed.
Lowest Resistance in Power/TC mode: 0.05O
Soft mode for a smooth vape
I have been using the Voopoo Drag exclusively since its original release and have been new using the Voopoo too now for a few weeks to compare.
While the Drag is an Amazing device It does have a few small subjective cons which Voopoo has adressed.
The Voopoo Too can Accomodate 30mm Atomizers with no overhang! Ergomomics, The Voopoo too fits great in hand and its extremely comfortable to hold. The 510 pin is almost centered on the top of the mod, not offet completley to 1 side like many mods. Extremely well built with main outer chassis made from Aluminum alloy instead of heavy zinc. Graphic improvements on the device screen, including power meter for both or just 1 battery. Newer larger heavy duty screwed in SS 510 pin base with springloaded pin. The device fires extremely fast, its almost unbelievable! I had to turn the power down as the device fires so quickly that there is much less ramp up time.
Soft mode is great. You can turn on Soft mode at any wattage. What this does is Pulse/modulate power. Think of it almost like a rev limiter on your car. You can turn the power WAY up high if you like and the vape will pulse modulate the power in a way where the heat will not continue run away and climb. along the lines similar to temp control in a certain way. Makes for an extremley smooth satisfying vape.
Temp control works very well and seems very accurate, (Really shines with SS mesh builds!) Subjective cons, The battery door styling isnt for everybody, however you can never make EVERYONE happy right?
While some people have had some concerns with the styling of the battery doors, they are 100% easily replaceable and Voopoo has confirmed that they WILL be offering battery doors of other styles and colors soon!!!

EDIT: For those asking about various coils for your devices, I would go with the "better safe than sorry" and not use them if they contain ceramic.
EDIT2: If you want to know what your coil is made out of, google it. You will save yourself some time rather than waiting for me to google it and reply.
